Roberta Montorfano , an artist with Italian-Mexican heritage, has been a dynamic presence in the world of textile and graphic design, and now she extends her influence by joining the Australian Museum of Design ‘AMoD’ as one of today’s pivotal contemporary designers. Her collection at AMoD is a tapestry of experiences, a reflection of her extensive travels around the globe that preceded her decision to settle in Australia.

Originating from Como, Italy’s renowned silk hub, Roberta’s formative years were infused with a rich tapestry of colours, textures, history, and art, nurturing her creative spirit. Her design philosophy is a narrative of life experiences, articulated through the vivid language of art, photography, and hues.

Roberta’s design repertoire is diverse, weaving through murals, art therapy, and unbridled self-expression, each an integral thread in her expansive canvas of creativity. After five years honing her skills in Italy’s textile industry and showcasing her work at international fairs in China, Japan, the US, Brazil, and Europe, 2013 marked a pivotal year. Driven by passion and ambition, she ventured to Sydney, a move that signified more than a career transition—it was a dedication to her craft and a vow to fulfil her design destiny.

Australia quickly became her new creative sanctuary, and in 2015, her dream studio was born. Transitioning from freelance projects to forming partnerships with local brands, she curated a bespoke collection of designs that now adorn art and prints throughout Australia and internationally. Roberta’s contemporary textile design, renowned for its distinctive textile prints now expand beyond just the fashion industry, into wallpaper, packaging and other industries whose quest for a fresh perspective on lifestyle trends.

Robert’s ethos is inspired by the natural world, art, and the expansive global canvas, passionately producing lively prints, graphics, and embroideries. Each design is a unique narrative, seamlessly blending digital precision with the authenticity of hand-drawn and painted artistry, now proudly housed and celebrated within the AMoD collection.
